of a series of print and television advertisements that Ad Age would rank
as the number one ad campaign of the 20th century. It didn't hurt that the
VW Beetle was the car that moved most of a generation from high school
to college to work to adulthood with a possible anti-war demonstration
or cross-country trek slipped in. It was the Boom Generation mode of
transportation and the ads were as irreverent as the kids who adored,
and could only just afford, the bug.
