Return to Back Then

McDONALD'S: When McDonald's hired Needham, Harper & Steers in
1971 to emphasize the ease and local convenience of eating at Mickey
D's they already had a concept in mind— one that touted McDonald's as
a faraway island of pleasure close by. Songwriters got busy on a jingle,
but somehow the copy just didn't work with the music the clients pre-
ferred. "You deserve a break today" coupled with a tune by Kenny Karen
resulted in what Advertising Age would deem the fifth best ad campaign
of the 20th century and the number one ad jingle of all time.
